Volunteer with us

We value the time and effort our volunteers spent volunteering in the community and helping us to achieve our Mission Statement. We are constantly looking for volunteers as new roles are created or become available; below is some information on the various volunteering roles we offer at PNCS.

Community Transport (CT) Drivers

CT Drivers are a valuable aspect to PNCS as without their support we would not be able to run the Community Transport Scheme, which allows local residents to access transport for health-related journeys and we do also cover social journeys.

Your mileage will be reimbursed at 45p per mile

As a CT Driver you would be able to:

  • Access a range of training courses from PTTA including Eco-Driving, MIDAS Minibus Training, Basic First Aid, Passenger Handling
  • Meet new people;
  • Volunteer around existing commitments.

What you can expect from us:

  • Support on understanding the role;
  • Reimbursement of mileage at 45p per mile;
  • Flexibility with the journeys you want to do each week (Would you like long distance or local or a mixture?) and the days/times you can volunteer (Just let us know when you’re not available or if you can’t do a certain journey etc.)

Charity Shop Volunteers

PNCS Charity Shop is located on High Street, Presteigne (Opposite Bennett’s Electrical and Premier). The shop is run by volunteers, who usually work a morning or afternoon shift and some even work more than one shift a week.

The usual shifts are 10am – 1pm and 1pm – 4pm, however, we do try to be as flexible as possible and so it may be possible to work a shorter shift.

We are constantly looking for additional shop volunteers even if you only want to be available as ‘cover’. There is also the option to help with sorting through the donations at our office on Hereford Street with Karen and a few other volunteers.

As a Charity Shop Volunteer you would be able to:

  • Meet new people;
  • Gain valuable retail experience;

What you can expect from us:

  • Support on working in the Charity Shop;

Warehouse Shop Volunteers

We are constantly looking for volunteers in our Warehouse, to help with sales, or deliveries and collections, we also would like volunteers who like DIY.

PNCS is managed by the Board of Trustees, who is responsible for the overall management of the charity. (See ‘Charity Commission’ website for more info on the role of a trustee)

The Committee (Board of Trustees) meet every 6-8 weeks to review Community Supports progress and tackle any arising issues. There are a few specific roles within the Committee including:

  • Chair;
  • Vice-Chair – Assists the Chair with their tasks and role;
  • Secretary – In charge of recording minutes of the meeting and setting agendas;
  • Treasurer – Provides the committee with up-to-date information on the accounts and financial status of the charity;
  • User Rep –Represents the Community Transport users by bringing any concerns regarding Community Transport to the attention of the Charity.

We are constantly looking for new trustees for a range of ages, backgrounds and experiences to contribute ideas and feedback to the management committee.

Circle Helpers

The Circle is managed by Liz but without the support of the Volunteers we wouldn’t be able to run the project.

It is a relaxed atmosphere for clients and volunteers, which is why helping out at ‘The Circle’ covers such a range of different activities and everyone does a bit of everything – There aren’t any defined roles within the Circle itself.

The range of activities includes:

  • Helping to set-up;
  • Greeting Visitors;
  • Talking to People;
  • Helping people to interact with others in the group;
  • Having a game of table football or pool;
  • Washing-up cups or bowls;
  • Preparing the soup and bread rolls;
  • Serving the soup;
  • Hosting a game or quiz with a small group;
  • Host an activity or workshop.
